The second week of the summer holidays saw Travis Lewis and Finlay Beyer head to Gothenburg to compete for the Prep Schools’ Lions District Team across several age groups at the Gothia World Youth Cup.
With around 1,800 teams from around 80 countries the Gothia Cup is the world’s biggest youth football tournament and as an event that is larger than the Commonwealth Games. 56,000 players and supporters packed Gothenburg’s world famous Ullevi stadium on Monday night for the Opening Ceremony.
Travis was selected for the U11 Prep School Lions first team and scored 12 goals to help the team achieve a third place finish out of 129 teams which was a magnificent and unprecedented achievement. Finlay was selected to play for the U12 Prep School Lions first team and kept four superb clean sheets with some great saves to help them secure a last 16 finish which again was a great achievement in a section with 173 teams.
The football itself was fast and furious against teams which in many cases are professional academies and feeders for some of Europe’s top senior sides.
Well done to both Travis and Finlay for their achievements.
