Hughenden Park Cross-Country 1st October 2016 Sport Cross-Country

The weather did its best to dampen the spirits at Hughenden Park.

Our Davenies’ runners were not for dampening, however!  James Attock and Charlie Tack (Year 6) took to the course at high speed, both finishing strongly within two places of each other and in the top 20 of eighty plus runners. Henry Bailey ran the more gruelling Year 7/8, 3k race with great determination and despite taking a fall still managed to finish strongly.  Five boys in the Year 5 race were enough to make up a team and what a team they proved to be!

William Alexander took on the field of 90 competitors from the front for the first kilometre before he had to finally settle for third; a very impressive effort.  Alex Haycock finished 6th, Chris Baker was 11th and Tom Barrett 17th.  Special mention for Thomas Alexander who, racing a year young, finished the Year 5 race in some style. He’ll be back! With four to count in the team race, the Davenies’ Year 5 team won their age group. A fantastic achievement!
