Senior & Middle School Sports Day 27th June 2016 Sport

The clouds parted, the rain stopped, the blue sky appeared for the first time in a week and Senior and Middle School Sports Day lived up to expectations.

In a new look, one-off track arrangement the boys enthused, cajoled and supported each other towards some fine personal and team performances.  Highlights included the High Jump and 800m events.  In the former, the atmosphere created by boys supporting other boys in their House was great to watch and almost certainly aided Alex Nagele’s (Year 5) successful record breaking jump of 1.41cm.  In the more gruelling 800m events, we witnessed not only some excellent racing at the head of the pack, but some equally impressive ‘never say die’ finishers who won the hearts and minds battle.  Cooper Smith (Year 6) and Travis Lewis (Year 5) won their respective Vortex Throw events with record breaking distances and Hugo Bogues (Year 6) also set a new school record in the Hurdles.

Well done to all competitors.  Many of you stepped into take the place of absentees at short notice and your sportsmanship was highly commendable throughout.

In the end, Drake fought with Icelandic fervour to secure a well-deserved victory after some no-nonsense relays.  Cook, having gone ahead at one point, could do nothing in response to Drake’s late charge, whilst Scott and Shackleton were always playing catch-up!
