The culmination of the Swimming League year ended in some style at Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys brand new eight-lane, touch-pad swimming pool. Swimming to strict ASA Competition Rules with timekeepers and lane judges can be quite daunting for the less experienced swimmer, but all coped remarkably well. The track start blocks were a mountain to climb on their own, whilst the boys were also left to organise themselves at the start and relay change overs as staff were requested not to coach at the ends of the pool.
There were eight schools in attendance vying for the three coveted year group trophies. Unofficially, our special Year 4 team competed with characteristic determination, leaving nothing to chance in a year in which they have dominated in League Galas. Mr Small and I were delighted that both the Year 5 and 6 teams also swam to their best in all races in this final Gala, but with so many close finishes it would be hard to second guess their overall finishing positions. All will be revealed next week when the organisers have collated the results.
