A steep learning curve at St. John’s 12th March 2015 Sport Cross-Country

Davenies’ U’11 Cross-Country team travelled to the picturesque grounds of St. John's, Northwood on Thursday for a meet against 13 other schools comprising over 120 runners.

A quick walk of the course underlined how tough the event was going to be with leg-sapping steep climbs the main feature.  The enthusiasm shown by all the boys was a mystery to parents and staff alike as runners discussed tactics and jostled for the best position on the start line.

Once the race got underway, the first steep climb spread the field quickly and all runners were soon breathing heavily and giving their all.

All of the Davenies runners finished in the top 70 with each of them pacing their race perfectly.  Particular mention to Oliver Stalder who finished in 12th position overall, and Alex Mill (U’10) a highly commendable 37th.

The IAPS Cross-Country Championship at Malvern on Sunday promises to be an equally tough test!
